How the old site did in Google search
All of these are from before the new site went up, and I will be sending you numbers like these every month from now on.
- Google sent your website 275 visits over the last 14 months, which is around 20 a month.
- Google does not show every search term. Of the ones it does show, only one was for the kind of work you do, and it was “commercial construction ottawa”.
- The rest had searched for the company by name, most often “vanta construction”.
- Around 78% of the visits Google sent landed on the home page.
- The old site had no contact form, so there was never a way to count an enquiry.
- Google only keeps six months of listing data. In that time your listing was viewed 1,091 times, and that produced 28 clicks through to the website and 6 phone calls.
What these numbers say
What worked:
- Your name. A search for Vanta Construction puts your site second in Google’s results, and about one in four of those searches ends with a click through to your site.
What did not work yet:
- Being found by people who have not heard of you. Only one search in 14 months was for the kind of work you do.
- Service pages. The old site had none, so Google had nowhere to send people except the home page.
All of these count visits rather than customers. The new site has a contact form, so from now on we can also count how many people get in touch.
Editing your Google My Business Listing
Improving those numbers starts with your Google listing. There are four things about it I would like to change, all aimed at making you findable by people who have not heard of you. Open each one for the detail.

Check the nine categories I picked
Your listing tells Google you are one thing, a "construction company". Google allows 10, and those categories are the main thing deciding which searches you turn up in.
Here is what I would add:
- General contractor
- Fence contractor
- Deck builder
- Concrete contractor
- Carpenter
- Masonry contractor
- Landscaper
- Remodeler
- Home builder
Let me know if you would prefer different ones.
Approve the new description, or reword it
Right now it reads:
Local construction management business serving Ottawa area, owned by Ryan Hannah. Ryan’s attention to detail and quality service ensures your next project is a success. Personable, friendly, and communicative, Ryan is there for all your construction needs.
That uses 256 of the 750 characters Google allows. I would like to use that space to name the services you offer, so it is clear you build fences and decks.
I would like to replace the description with this:
Vanta Construction builds and repairs fences, decks, concrete and interlock across Ottawa and the surrounding area. Owned by Ryan Hannah and founded in 2020. We also take on custom carpentry, interior renovations, and warranty and post-occupancy work for builders. WSIB cleared and carrying $2M liability insurance. We take Tarion warranty callbacks. Free quotes: we visit your property, walk the job with you and give you a written estimate.
Let me know if you would word anything differently.
Tell me whether to hide your home address
Your listing shows 4205 Thunder Road. That means Google has been giving people driving directions to your house, and it did so 269 times over those six months. I had assumed that address field was there for completeness. What it does instead is tell Google whether customers come to you, and having it filled in puts you in the same category as a retail business. There is a setting that hides it, and you already have Ottawa set as your service area. The listing would show that on its own, and Google would stop offering people directions to your house.
Let me know if you would rather keep the address showing.
Confirm your opening hours
The listing says you are open 24 hours a day, which tends to read as though nobody is paying attention to it. Here is what I would put:
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm
- Saturday, 8am to 4pm
- Sunday, closed
Let me know if those are right and I will put them in.
Filling the categories should put your listing in front of people searching for fencing, decks and concrete in Ottawa. Today it mostly appears in searches for Vanta Construction by name. The description and the hours give a first-time caller a reason to pick up the phone.
Google usually takes a month or two to react to listing changes. I will check the listing's search figures in October and send you what changed.
